Dick Wolf recently told Forbes that he was sure he “lost more money on the strike than any other producer.” With nine shows at 22 episodes each (some commanding up to $350,000 per episode, up front), Wolf could very well be the King of Primetime.
His One Chicago triad returns tonight (Wednesday) beginning at 8/7C and Law & Order – which now sits on top of the leaderboards with six spin-offs – comes back on Thursday at 8/7C. Both will air on NBC.
One Chicago Wednesdays
Chicago Med, 8/7 p.m. CST
The end of season eight of Chicago Med saw the departure of original cast members Brian Tee and Nick Gehlfuss (Drs. Ethan Choi and Will Halstead, respectively). According to NBC, tonight’s episode, “Row Row Row Your Boat on a Rocky Sea” should go as follows:
When the E.D. is flooded with patients from a crash, the entire team is pulled in to help. Dr. Charles can’t shake the feeling that he knows the new E.D. attending. Dr. Archer has second thoughts on the eve of his kidney transplant.
Chicago Fire, 9/8 p.m. CST
The 11th season had several different storylines flapping in the wind. Tonight, Firehouse 51 returns with “Barely Gone,” when it joins forces with Firehouse 17. Also, expect to see Kidd and Hermann (played by Miranda Rae Mayo and David Eigenberg) fight over candidate Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and an arson case that causes some relationship issues between Kidd and Severide (Taylor Kinney). Another unknown cast member will make a final exit.
Chicago P.D., 10/9 p.m. CST
Things look tenuous and complicated in the 21st District after the end of season 10. White supremacist and domestic terrorist, Richard Beck (Lee Tergesen) is still wreaking havoc as Burgess and Ruzek (Marina Squerciati and Patrick John Flueger) lock down their tumultuous relationship.
Tonight on “Unpacking,” Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) goes head to head with the team’s mental health clinician as her personal issues come to the forefront.
Law & Order Thursdays
Law & Order, 8/7 p.m. CST
The first episode of Season 23 is titled “Freedom of Expression” and will show the NYPD and New York District Attorney’s office work its way through the after effects of a school shooting. The fine line between free speech and hate speech will also be explored in a university setting.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, 9/8 p.m. CST
The 25th season will debut on Peacock as well as NBC and is set to cover the birth of Detective Rollins’ (Kelli Giddish) and ADA Sonny Carisi’s (Peter Scanavino) first child. Meanwhile, another child goes missing in plain sight on the streets of NYC.
Law & Order: Organized Crime, 9/10 p.m. CST
This will be the fourth season premiere of the third series that’s currently airing in the franchise. Tonight sees the return of Detective Stabler (Christopher Meloni) after a dicey undercover mission that was teased in last season’s finale.
Other plotlines include the introduction of an AI tech program into the precinct and Detective Slootmaekers and Reyes (Ainsley Seiger, Rick Gonzales) deal with the loss of their coworker, Detective Whelan (Brent Antonello).
