Batman Part 2 Set to Start Filming in 2024

The highly anticipated sequel to the rebooted Batman franchise is moving forward–kind of!–but this time the Dark Knight won’t be patrolling the shadowy streets of Gotham alone. Dick Grayson’s Robin is slated to join the him on patrol, and they’ll reportedly be squaring off with a longtime fan favorite member of Batman’s rogues gallery. Here’s what we can tell you bout Batman Part 2 and how the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike is affecting production.

What We Know About The Film

Prepare to be immersed in the dark and gritty world of Gotham City once again, as Batman faces his greatest challenge yet. Matt Reeves is once again helming the film as director, further expanding his vision of Batman’s world. Robert Pattinson is set to reprise the role of Batman as well, bringing his unique interpretation of the iconic character.

There’s been a long line of Robins in the Batman universe (Bruce Wayne has a knack for going through sidekicks) but Dick Grayson was the first and probably the most well-known of all. Depending on what comic, movie, or show you’re watching, your mileage may vary on what fate Grayson faces, Grayson’s story often plays out as him eventually taking on a new superhero identity as Nightwing. It’ll be interesting to see if Reeves plans to follow that path or go in a different direction in future films.

As we mentioned above, Clayface, one of Batman’s most formidable foes, is also set to appear in the sequel. Created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane in the 1940s, this shape-shifting (in his current iteration) villain possesses the ability to mold his body into any form. Like, you know, clay. Clayface has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity after being a main character in the Harley Quinn Animated Series, making us wonder about the direction Reeves will take for the shifty villain.

How is the Strike Affecting Batman Part 2?

Originally Batman Part 2 was slated to start filming this November, but it’s since been pushed back to next year. As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike waged on, it became inevitable this movie would be affected. It’s certain many films will continue to be delayed, but fans nevertheless continue to await the release of Batman part 2 with palpable anticipation.

Stay tuned for the release date … and get ready for the ongoing legacy of the Dark Knight.
