A First Look At ‘Fair Play’: Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich Go Head to Head in New Trailer

Netflix Studios is turning up the heat with the Fair Play, a razor sharp thriller streaming this fall. Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich play a couple who go to war after an unexpected promotion at a cutthroat hedge fund.  The official trailer shows how the promotion pushes the young couple’s relationship to the brink, threatening to unravel far more than their recent engagement.

All is Fair in Love, War, and Finances

Fair Play centers around a pair of financial analysts, Emily and Luke, who are engaged in a relationship against workplace policy. However, when Emily receives an unexpected promotion, things change. Their relationship and even their own personhood begins to unravel at the seams.

For director Chloe Domont, the movie was “a story that was burning inside of me and a story I couldn’t not tell.” In an interview with Netflix, Domont describes the story as a way to resolve how her ambition or earnings intimidated men in her life.

Domont’s head on approach on discussing sexism in this film will provide an interesting lens on modern stressors that couples, especially women, go through. Fair Play goes a step further and shows how these relationship stressors can be compounded by the intense workplace culture that some careers are famous for cultivating.

Domont continues, “These dynamics should no longer be normalized.” Fair Play aims to take these dynamics to their most extreme conclusion, giving audiences a tense thriller as the aftermath of the promotion tests the very core of the couple’s relationship.

The Star Studded Cast in Fair Play

Fair Play is a departure for both leads based on their past work. Netflix fans may best know Phoebe Dynevor for her role as Regency debutant Daphne Bridgerton in the Netflix hit series Bridgerton. Alden Ehrenreich also has an acting resume, most known for playing Eddie in Cocaine Bear and a young Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The cast is rounded out by Eddie Marsan Rich Sommer Geraldine Somerville and Sebastian de Souza among others.

Fair Play starts streaming on Netflix on Oct. 13
